Confidence in God

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”  Hebrews 10:35-36

We Thank God for what he has been doing in our midst throughout the past month.  We did an outreach and witnessed to 459 people, and 69 people came to Christ. About 40-50 high-schoolers started worshiping with us.  We also baptized four people after we taught them the word of God

I came back to the USA on November 1st for my checkup and to see my family.  Unfortunately, they found my cancer spread to my liver, and they recommended for me to take chemo for two months.  I start chemotherapy this coming December 6th.

The word of God says, “Worship the Lord your God, and his blessings will be on your food and water.  I will take away sickness from among you…” – Exodus 23-25.

I ask that you pray for the church in Ethiopia and my healing. So that I may be healed to go back to Ethiopia.

Thanks and may God bless you!

Outreach and Conferences

Hello Everyone!

The Internet in Ethiopia is a bit spotty.

On July 7 and 8, we will have outreach with 40 people from great commission.  Also, we will have a 3-day conference starting July 14-16. Please pray that many people will come to God’s kingdom and many will be encouraged in their lives. May the grace of our Lord be with all of you.

Obeying God

“The fear of the Lord leads to Life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble”Proverbs19: 23.

Hi, brothers and sisters how are you? I hope everyone is doing great. Our God is great and faithful; He is answering our prayers.

A month ago, I went to visit a seriously sick woman; it was not a good environment to pray for her, and I decided to leave her place and go home. The following day early in the morning the Spirit of God asked me to go and pray for her. I rented a small car and went back to her place, and after I had prayed, I asked her to give her life to Jesus, and she agreed and welcomed Jesus into her heart. Two days later, she passed away. I felt sorry about her death but was happy because I obeyed God and she went to be with Jesus. Praise God! I learned that if we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit and obey Him, He would do great things in our lives. Praise the Lord.

On April 29th and 30th with 25 great commission people, we witnessed to 682 people around our areas and 73 people gave their lives for Jesus. Praise God it was amazing! Among the 73 people, there were Muslims, Orthodox, and unbelievers. On May 5th, we will work again with 26 Assemblies of God church people to do more witnessing in the area. The plan is that every three months we will work with the great commission people to go and witness in our area. According to Mathew 28:18-20 and Luke 15 this is what God has commanded us to do; spread the gospel and make disciples.

UPDATE ON LAST THIRTY DAYS

  • I hired an evangelist on April 5th in a part-time position.
  • Two signboards advertising the church were put up recently, one at the roadside and one on the front wall of the church. The signs have drawn many new people to the church. Due to the increase in attendance, we changed our Sunday service from afternoon to morning hours, which are from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • God gave me a beautiful two bedroom apartment at a good monthly rate, and I moved in on April 15. Everyone is welcome to come and visit.
  • Several of the International Evangelical Church (IEC) pastors; senior pastor Jerry Shannon, congregational care pastor Girma Demissie and the director of adult ministries Michael W. Heaton asked me to use our church building first for Bible studies and second for Sunday morning English speaking church services. They have many members in our area, and it is far for them to drive to IEC. I said okay as long as it is for the kingdom of God. Last Saturday they started Bible study.
  • Regarding the 3-day conferences, I decided to organize it when I have come back from America because it is too much to handle and I will not be in Ethiopia. I will be back in Minnesota the middle of June.

We are very busy besides holding services three times a week we are going to start teaching the new converts at least twice a week. We are also doing counseling and prayer as many people have a lot of issues.

Immediate Needs

  1. Additional chairs for the church, 75 chairs for the children Sunday school for three rooms and 25 more chairs for main church.
  2. More Bibles for the new converts.
  3. A Monitor to control the music.
  4. A Projector
  5. A Car

Finally, I want you to thank God for His amazing work in our lives and to pray for the following:

  1. Deep in my heart I feel we need our own place to worship God because we will have more freedom and it is not easy to pay 17,250 Birr every month. We can use it for other needs. Brothers and sisters our God is the owner of heaven and earth, please let us pray by faith and God will do great things.
  2. Pray for the new converts to come to Church, learn the word of God, and be strong in their faith. Always when people decided to follow Jesus, the devil brings different obstacles to stop them from learning God’s word.
  3. Pray for us we need strength, wisdom, and the knowledge of God to counsel, teach, and pray for others.
  4. Pray for my health; sometimes I feel pain in my stomach and for my travel to the USA. I will come on June 14th.
  5. Pray for Ethiopia in some areas of the country there are conflicts between tribes and drought in the northern part of the country.

I sent you some pictures; please take a look at them. May the peace of God be with you.

Jesus is Lord!

Hello Everyone,

Finally, we got our license yesterday, Praise God!  Also, the four rooms are completed.

Now we will start outreach in our area and organize conferences. Please pray for the outreach because we are dealing with different people such as Orthodox and Muslims. For the conference, we need preachers, worship leaders, and musicians. Here are some pictures.

General Update

“As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.”  Daniel 12:13.

Hello everyone how are you?

I want to thank each and every one of you for what you have done for Marie, Redeat, and me.

Praise God! Our license application is corrected and approved by the Ethiopian federal office and submitted to Ethiopian press agency on March 10, 2016. The request for a church certificate will be published in the Herald and Ethiopian Addis newspapers. Then we wait until March 27, 2016, to see if anyone objects to the name and logo. If no opposition, we will get our license on March 28, 2016. We give God the glory!

The four rooms for the children’s church, the workmen who we hired to do the roofing and sheet metal were not as qualified as they led us to believe and made a lot of mistakes. The roof is short and it leaks. Therefore, we have to do it over immediately. After the roof is completed, we will install the electricity, ceiling, paint, make the floors smooth, and prepare the hallway for the winter rains. God willing, we will finish within the next ten days.

Regarding church services we are doing well most people come from far because we did not announce about the church in our area due to the issue with the license. Last Sunday about twenty people attended the service. We had a guest preacher who was 88 years old. He was a captain during the reign of King Haile Selassie. He is a member of International Evangelical Church (IEC); pastor Girma introduced him to me. I extended an invitation to him to come to the church and preach; we had a wonderful service. The theme of the sermon was ” Jesus paid a great price for us so let us live for him.”

Our next step, I am planning to organize a two-day conference in April as soon as we get our license. A conference is similar to a tent or revival meeting. Three days ago, I was with two pastors from the Assembly of God Church; we discussed how to prepare Amharic tracts and flyers, organize people for outreach in our church area before the conferences, and how to organize the conferences and it went well.

As for me, since I came to Ethiopia in December, I am living with a friend whom I knew in Nairobi, Kenya. He offered me a place and said not to rent my own place until I have the church license and the children’s rooms completed. It is amazing God’s provision. However, I am contributing to living expenses. My health is good, but two weeks ago, I drank mixed juice and made my stomach sick, but God healed me. In general, life for a person who has medical issues and lived in Kenya for ten years it is not easy especially after experiencing fifteen years of life in America. The hygiene, food, transportation, communication, etc. are all daily challenges living in Ethiopia. However, I am jubilant because I am doing the vision God placed in my heart for many years and God’s help is with me in every step I am taking.

Finally, I want you to thank God for everything he has done. Pray for an evangelist, outreach to the community, the upcoming conferences, guest preachers until I get my license, worship leaders, music players, and my health. May God be with all of you?

Prayer Request

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well. The church is coming along. So far, the paint is complete, the stage is built, and the hall looks great. I purchased for the church 200 chairs, 2 speakers, a keyboard, and a microphone holder. Unfortunately, last Saturday the amplifier burnt when the musician tried to setup for worship. I took it to the music shop and they repaired it I thank God because it is very expensive to buy in Ethiopia. We will try again to setup the music instruments.

Regarding my health I thank God I am doing great. Therefore, I want you to thank God for what he has done so far.

Please pray for the following:

  • To help us to get the ministry license as soon as possible because it is not safe to organize church without this license.
  • For God to send the right evangelist and music player.
  • A vehicle because transport is very essential to accomplish my daily duties.
  • For a place to live especially a place near the church.

Thank you and God be with all of you.
